Still Life

Simplicity: I attempt to simplify the composition of each still life as much as possible in order to draw full attention to the objects being depicted. The shaded areas are important elements in the composition as a whole, and the play of light and shade on the objects is crucial to creating the illusion of three-dimensions.
Heirloom tomatoes, peppers of all colors, plants and flowers, colorful bottles, sea shells and my favorite rusted lantern make delightful subjects, particularly as light bathes the object, bringing out the varied colors. The shaded areas not only define the objects' shape but are also an integral part of the composition.
